Thanks for the lovely touches of chocolates/raspberries and flowers.  We loved the Manifold Trail, climbing Thorpe Cloud,                                    Abraham Heights and brilliant weather to boot.  What a treat!  Sally, Cambridge.

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage,  I loved playing with Barney and Penny.  I loved the walks you suggested.                            We would like to come back!  Iona, (aged 8) and Finlay (aged 10), Cambridge.
  • Aug '12  A Perfect base for our 1st Peaks holiday, friendly and helpful host.  A great place four our dog's first holiday with us, he really enjoyed the freedom of the paddock.  Mike, your suggestions for walks were great, really enjoyed the Roaches & Wolfscote Dale.  Fish 'n' chips from Longnor worth the short drive.  A wonderful place, we hope to return for more.  Steve, Jude, Cam & Ellie, & Brock, Solihull, W. Midlands.
  • Aug '12  A very nice cottage to stay.  Plenty of space outside for Felip to play football and Lucia to play with the dogs.  A perfect host, Mike, who gave us a lot of info about the moors and things to do and visit.  He showed me a lovely run across the Bereford Dale.  Weather wasn't the best as we got soaked through twice while cycling and horseriding but who would come on holiday to England for its weather??  Lovely area to stay.  Riera-Fulls family, Mallorca
  • Aug '12  A lovely stay in a wonderful cottage, you made us feel really welcome.  We'll definitely be back.  xx  J, L, L & J H, Hinckley, Leics.

  • Sept '12  A wonderful cottage, so peaceful and clean, a very nice reception on arrival.  We enjoyed our holiday, hope to be back.  Would certainly recommend.  M and R A, Spalding, Lincs.
  • Sept '12  Beginning to feel a bit like a boomerang - we keep coming back!  Best holiday cottage we have stayed in.  Mike, Barney + Penny superb hosts.  We'd reommend Manifold Inn for Whim ales, Longnor Fish and Chips, Tea Junction Tearooms for lunch, + good for vegetables, + Wetton Mill Tea rooms as well.  Spoilt for choice, Chatsworth you must see.  Peak District Dairy butter from Hartington Cheese Shop a must eat.  M & P , Fermanagh, N. Ireland
  • Oct. '12  This was my 6th stay here, it was a shame that it was very short but it was still brilliant!  Barney and Penny were very cute as usual and I will miss them loads!  Hope to come back really soon.  Tara (age 11).
  • Another nice stay - we have been coming here for 4 years now, it still feels new!  We had a good long walk with Barney and Penny that tired me out but Barney and Penny didn't seem affected.  Although only here for 3 days this time I still had great fun.  Timmy (aged 11).
  • 3 days was really too short for  a stay in the place we have all grown so fond.  Took B and P out for the day from Dovedale and back via Beresford Dale.  Ate at the Devonshire Arms, which was good.  Tara and I went to Alton Towers for the day and managed 10 rides. Timmy and Dad went Quad biking at Wild Park.  M and J K, East Molesey, Surrey - and Tara and Timmy
  • Nov '12  Had a great time here and enjoyed spending time exploring on bike and foot.  Reg loved the paddock and took up a new hobby, mousing!!!  It was great to relax with Helen and Pete although the boys kept us busy most of the time.  Would love to come back again to explore more tracks and trails. G, J and DR, Worchestershire (and Reg, the dog).
  • We had a great time on the trails and it was good to be close to them.  We also had a good time exploring on foot.  Joe (aged 10).  p.s. It would be great to come back and next time I will keep my bedroom tidy!!!  Barney and Penny are very well trained and very nice.
  • Enjoyed the trails.  We could get straight out in to the countryside.  Reg enjoyed all the walks, Ruby did too. (the dogs). My favourite bit was cycling on the trails.  David (age 7).
  • Mike, thank you for your warm welcome.  H and P, and Ruby the dog.  Devon

  • Jan '13  A perfect cottage to stay in for our New Year break.  West Side Barn is very comfortable, warm and well appointed.  We've managed to do 2 cycle rides - Manifold Valley from the cottage and Monsal Trail from Millers Dale to Bakewell - and 2 walks -  Baslow Edge and Dovedale to Milldale.  Weather wasn't ideal but at least not contunhuous rain!  Thank you Mike for a great stay and we'd love to return.  G,D,S & G D, (and Snoopy the dog!)  Berkshire.
  • Apr '13  We had a wonderful break at West Side Barn and were very well looked after by Mike - great tips on good pubs and walks.  The Barn has been renovated to a very high standard - I'd like to move in!  Spangle has been worn out with some beautiful walks in Dovedale, Edale and Thor's Cave and we've enjoyed some great suppers in The Devonshire Arms, and the Royal Oak in Hurdlow.  Sad to be leaving but aim to come back soon!  Many thanks for making us feel so welcome and going the extra mile in making the Barn so comfortable.  LC, Weybridge

The fresh flowers and chocolates on arrival are a very welcome surprise.  Beautiful location and great walks nearby.  Thank you Mike for your hospitality and we look forward to returning in the near future. S & S A, East Sussex, and K, D and Harry A, East Sussex.

  • June 13  Our second visit to West Side Barn has been every bit as enjoyable as our first.  The weather has been mostly kind which has enabled us to get out and about and see the sights.  We can highly recommend Chatsworth House and gardens.  The Heights of Abraham at Matlock were also very good, but not for vertigo sufferers!  Speedwell Cavern at Castleton was a very different experience but not good for claustrophobics.  We have also spent a surprising amount of time in the cottage because it is such a pleasant and comfortable place to be. If you like fly fishing we can highly recommend Carsinton Water - a lovely lake full of fantastic quality trout.  M and R N, Susssex and A and J G, Kent
  • June '13  Another great stay at West Side Barn.  So much to see & do.  Thanks for all the recommendations & local knowledge Mike.  Devonshire Arms - a great place to eat.  (We're sure its getting brighter over there!)  Weather was good for the most part - ideal for cycling and walking and cruising.  Thanks again Mike & Barney & Gyp.  I and G, Worcs.

  • Aug '13  Our second stay in West Side Barn.  Very enjoyable, weather OK and still plenty of things to do in the Peak district.  We enjoyed our visits to Speedwell Cavern in Castleton and we had a nice day in Longshaw, a very nice walk in a lovely forest.  Lucia had a great time playing ball with Barney and Gyp and Felip kept paractising his football in the rear garden.  We recommend the Devonshire Pub in Hartington for a meal out, and Tissington Trail Bike ride to burn of the meal.  (26 miles in total, important starting in Ashbourne so the last 13m will be downhill).  Thanks Mike for a very nice week.  Riera-Full family, Mallorca
  • Aug '13  What a fabulous find but we cannot take credit for discovering this jewel of the Peaks - our thanks to Claire for that.  We arrived late Saturday afternoon to find Mike waiting to greet us, his welcome was warmer than any I have experienced.  As Mike showed us around this very well appointed cottage;  the flowers, chocs, milk in the fridge - just add food and wine!  What a cracking find.  This is our first visit to Derbyshire and what a visit - the cottage, scenery, weather and people, especially our hosts, Mike, Barney and Gyp.  T and M, Shoreham, West Sussex.
  • Aug '13  Mike, this is a fantastic cottage and set in a beautiful location.  I'm so pleased to have found this gem.  We couldn't have expected more and you are so accommodating and a wonderful guy.  Thank you for showing us a few of your local walks;  as you know we adore this part of the UK and can now add these to our portfolio.  The weather was certainly kind to us and a super opportunity to invite old friends to enjoy a relaxing BBQ, listening to the cows 'chat' across the fields!  Barney and Gyp were a real joy and such company we shall miss them when we return home.  Hopefully a time will come when we'll be residing in these here parts, on a permanent basis.  As and when that hope occurs, David and I would very much like to in in touch and extend the hand of friendship.  Thank you once again, and very best wishes.  C and D, Bourne End, Bucks.

  • Oct '13  Another lovely stay in West Side Barn.  We had a very nice break here consisting of lots of walking and a nice boat ride.  Barney and Gyp very much enjoyed the walks and they were very affectionate.  Sadly, due to my Dad's job our trip was cut short by about two days.  Thank you Mike for the very well kept cottage and I'm sure we will be back soon.  Timmy (age 12).

R & J, L & J, Jasper and Magnum (the dogs), Essex.
  • March '14  From the first moment we arrived we felt at home in the cottage.  It had everything we needed plus loads of extra little special touches.  Michael was the perfect host and couldn't have made us feel any happier if he'd tried.  We came to relax and chill out after the stresses of work and it certainly did the trick.  Fantastic cottage and scenery and location.  L & D, and A &C, Essex.
  • April '14  A very warm and friendly reception to this very well appointed accommodation.  So good indeed, we've booked to come back again later this year!  We have stayed in lots of cottages and barn conversions although this place has to be near the very top of the list.  The dogs loved the exercise area - a great feature and so thoughtful.  P & J R, Surrey ( and Sonny and Flora, the dogs).
  • April '14  A beautifully equipped cottage and a host who could not be more helpful.  Lovely weather, good company and spectacular walks.  Thank you Mike for making us feel very welcome in your barn and to the area.  We had a great time and will be recommending West Side Barn to our fellow Aussies.  J & C R, Essex and A, Cornwall.  J & R O, NSW, Australia.

  • May '14  We have done many cottage holidays and this is the best so far.  The cottage is beautiful and the location perfect.  We have had lovely meals out all week, but the top two are The Royal Oak, Wetton and The Packhorse in Crowdecote.  Cottage is lovely and well equipped - flowers, chocs & Tea + biscuits are a lovely touch.  Mike is a wonderful host and made us all feel welcome - especially taking our 4 year old to see some new born lambs!  Oh, & Gyp and Barney are fab too!!  We will definitely be back.  S and H, Birmingham.

  • May '14  Ideal place to come and stay with family and re-visit places in the Peak district last seen many years ago.  Enjoyed exploring Ecton Hill and the Manifold Valley, and walking over Chrome Hill and its neighbours!  Great to be able to come back and relax in such a well equipped, peaceful and comfortable cottage!  Thank you.  P F, Exeter
  • Exploring this rich and varied landscape from such a great base has been hugely enjoyable.  The Manifold cycle way has been filled with blossom and bird song all week!  What a joy! R F, London.
  • June '14  Super holiday in a lovely cottage., Mike has been very kind and chocolates and floweers on arrival were really appreciated.  We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years and this one is definitely the best!  Really enjoyed our stay and hope to return.  We have just spent the week admiring one lovely spot after another - and really enjoyed ourselves.  B and V O, Wirral
  • June 14  We love this cottage.  We arrived with two children and slightly concerned if area etc would be appropriate.  The area we found out was stunning, the views incredible.  The cottage itself is of a beautiful standard.  People sometimes have written this is a home from home.  I don't agree, this is far superior to our lovely house back in Cheshire.  Recommendations with children - Monkey Forest, our 2 year old loved it.  Rudyard Steam Train - a lovely little trip followed by a picnic lakeside with children splashing in the shallows - perfect.  Carsington Reservoir - brilliant playground for your children, interactive zone and great picnic area.  Our final recommendation would be playing in the lovely field you get to use, that was a real bonus.  Feel very grateful to have been here and hope to return.  Thanks Mike.  R & V M, Cheshire.
  • June '14  Don't know where to start with this lovely, idylic place,  It's just gorgeous.  Beautiful scenery everywhere you look and perfect for young children, ours had an absolute ball!  Mike is a wonderful host, warm and approachable, interested and so helpfull.  The cottage/barn is the best we have been in, I wish it were our home!  To sit out and have a BBQ is tranquil and so pleasant.  Plenty of activity to do for children, bike trails, water sports, would love to keep this place a hidden gem as we would almost certainly be back every year!  Still I have no doubt that we would  come back, it's a 10/10 for me.  Rudyard/Carsington the pick of the bunch, children were so happy!  Will be sad to leave place!  Thanks so much Mike.  Excellent value for money!  R & V, M and B, Chester
  • June '14 A great barn conversion that has created a perfect holiday let.  We have had a good, sunny week and enjoyed exploring a new area for us on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border. Mike, the perfect host, grows great cucumbers!!  Thanks.  D & H P, Melrose
  •              I agree with all that!  We know Derbyshire a litter better, but it is the perfect base to explore the lower slopes of the Peak District and a delightful destination in itself.  Thank you again.  D & K O, West Sussex.

Sussex

  • Oct '14  Another good stay, blessed with fantastic weather for this time of year.  Mike's a really helpful host and the cottage is just perfect.  Beresford Dale is a nice local walk.  Good food at Biggin Hall, the Manifold Inn and Devonshire Arms.  Poor service at The Charles Cotton.  P and J R and Flora, the dog.  Oxted, Surrey

  • Nov '14  Thank you very much Mike for the lovely cottage, warm welcoming and nice hospitality!  It was a very relaxing holiday in a beautiful location.  Everything we needed was there in the cottage.  We took some nice walks, went to Buxton for shopping and stayed in the cottage for playing games and cooking.  Our son loved your toys, thank you!  I'm sure we will be back.  L, T and D, The Hague, Netherlands.
  • Dec '14  We've been lookking forward to our Christmas at West Side Barn for months and it never disappoints.  All the facilities that we and the dogs could ever require.  Felt nice and warm and cosy in the barn with the wind howling outside!  So many great eating and walking places to discover.  The George at Alstonefield is a hidden gem for "foodies" not your usual grub, so I suppose you'd call it "gastro".  More traditional food served with a smile at the Devonshire Arms, Hartington.  For a special treat try Biggin Hall. P and J R and Flora and Moss the dogs.
  • Jan '15  Our second stay at West Side Barn and just as lovely as last year! Walking in the snow was fantastic and great to come back to our snug little barn!  Manifold Inn as usual was a great place to eat.  Thank you very much for chocs and Champagne!  Cristmas tree lovely too. We do hope you continue to get better Mike and wish you and your sister in law, Julie, a very happy and Healthy New Year.
  • Another levely stay in this well-equipped and cosy cottage.  Our walks were lovely but it was great returning to the warmth of this haven.  We gave the local shops in Hartington plenty of business and recommend the Cheese Shop, especially.  T and D M, Alfie and Paddy, the dogs.  And D and R M.
  • Feb '15  Well Mike, thank you so much for another very enjoyable week.  We have thoroughly enjoyed the lovely walks with the dogs...I hope we haven't tired you out too much!  You have been so accommodating and kind, the girls have loved it.  See you again in July. GC and Co.,Norfolk.
  • Mar '15 We had a wonderful stay here - the views are stunning and the cottage has all you could wish for.  Enjoyed Beresford Dale - lovely flat walk - perfect for a family walk.  Had a fantastic meal at Royal Oak.  Excellent Sunday roast and open fire! Not such a good meal at Devonshire Arms!  Thanks for having us - I'm sure we will be back and will recommend to others as an ideal spot to explore the Peaks.  Pitt family, Herts.
  • Mar '15  Delighted to be back again, after our last visit in Feb/March 2011. As before, enjoyed a variety of walks in surrounding stunning countryside, and appreciated coming back to this very comfortable barn, with such a well-equipped kitchen, for our home cooked meals and leisurly evenings. V, C, P, and K, Sheffield
  • Mar '15  A fabulous location, stunning scenery, and a beautifully renovated property made for a thoroughly restful stay.  Mike's attention to detail in the house and grounds is exceptional.  We will be back.  Ruddles, our Manchester Terrier, really appreciated the enclosed paddock to run some energy off! Thank you!  M and A D, Prechac, France.
  • Apr '15  What a great week and a great welcome from Mike, despite the additional two puppies. The cottage is superb, with everything you could wish for.  Include that with the views and the walks and the pubs, then you have the makings of a glorious holiday.  Cheers Mike. D & A K and the dogs! Gloucs.
  • April '15  Thank you for an incredible relaxing holiday! P & E & E and N, Farnborough
  • April '15  We had a most enjoyable 5 days here in this lovely cottage, revisiting favourite places and discovering some new ones.  Great weather - enjoyed the views and even sat outside with an eveining glass of wine.  Great to have the field for the dog to run free in.  Recommend the Friday evening fish and chop van in Hartington.  Thank you Mike for being a very good host.  D & A, and Bella the Scottie, West Dorset.
  • April '15  We have had another wonderful, restful stay in the barn.  Eaten out most evenings but keep going back to The Devonshire arms in Hartington, very good pub grub and the owner is always very welcoming. Tried The Royal Oak, Wetton, food OK but staff not very welcoming! Some lovely walks, many revisited but really enjoyed the one from the barn to Wetton Mill, where we had a pit stop in the cafe (very good cup of tea and cake) then continued through the 'valley' then back to the barn via Back of Ecton (map in plastic wallet on table).  Thanks again Mike, you're a great host and we'll see you in July. P, G and A and Fyn (the dog). Norfolk
  • April '15  We were blessed with superb weather on our stay so able to enjoy walks with the dogs at Beresford Dale, Scotts Dale, Parsley Hay, Monsal Dale and Tissington Trail.  West Side Barn is just ideal for us. "Meal of the week" was at Biggin Hall - lunchtime menu is fantastic value. P and J R, with Flora and Moss , the dogs, Surrey.
  • May '15 Thanks for everything Mike!  Hope to see you again. I am sure the Roaches have got longer and steeper and the descent more wearing than 15 years ago but we did it.  Paddock was much enjoyed by crazy Greyhound and faster Lurcher. Really enjoyable week in the Barn. J and J, and Bertie and Molly,  the dogs. Norfolk
  • May '15  Another enjoyable week at West Side Barn - seventh time.  Weather not good but still managed to walk.  A day at Hardwick Hall near Sheffield - very interesting and lovely grounds.  Once again, thank you Mike. M and B, K and J and new puppie, Maddie.  Leicestershire
  • May '15  We had a lovely week here.  The views are beautiful and to look out at all the sheep was a great change than home!  Have thoroughly enjoyed the walks and "Mia" the dog has had a great time.  Cottage is certainly well equipped and Mike a very helpful host.  Good localtion for a number of easy walks in surrounding area.  P and P C, and Mia the dog.  Orpington, Kent
  • May '15 We're no strangers to the Peak District but West Side Barn is one of the finest cottages we've stayed in - everything you could need.  A warm and friendly welcome from Mike - the weather could have been kinder but a most enjoyable stay.  P and M H, and Rosie (the Retriever), Norfolk.
  • May '15  The most difficult thing, when planning a holiday with a partially-sighted, somewhat frail 90 year old, is finding accommodation that meets thei needs, but is also a cosy, pleasant environment for the hard-working carers!  West Side Barn was pretty much perfect, thank you, Mike.  Aside from meeting up with family, highlight was Chatsworth House, who were very welcoming and sensitive to the needs of wheelchair users - their operation was very slick and accommodating, more so than the National Trust, who we found less geared up for the disabled here than they are in other properties we've visited - Keddleston in particular is not fully accessible.  Foodwise;- Charles Cotton -good food, but somewhat chaotic and uncomfortable service; Devonshire Arms, average but very welcoming.  Manifold Inn excellent on both counts - quality and service.  One day we'll come back without the wheels and do some walking! I & A C, and S, Cambridgeshire.
  • June '15  Exceptional cottage, every need catered for and very comfortable. Thank you Mike for your warm welcome and flowers and chocs.  S and J W, and Flora the Schnauzer, Shrewsbury, Shrops.
  • June '15  Lovely cottage! Superb weather, great walking! Chris and Pete, Essex.  Shirley and Mike, N. Yorks.
  • June 15  2nd time staying at this beautiful cottage.  We have two small children (aged 8 and 18 months).  Some of the highlights were
  • 1. CBbees at Alton Towers.
  • 2. A day swimming and then time spent in the beautiful park of Buxton.
  • 3. Cycling on Tissington Trail and a relaxed day in Matlock Baths.
  • Cottage is perfect and its location is just perfect.  Just a quick note - sampled the food at the Manifold Inn and would highly recommend, the burger was very especially yummy.  Thanks Mike for an amazing stay and hope to return again.  Vicky, Chester.
  • June '15 Another wonderful holiday - as before the facilities were excellent.  Hope to be back next year for another visit. Thank you Mike, best wishes. B and V, V and R, B and M and Mylo the dog.
  • July '15  Lovely place to stay. Mike was very helpful. Had some glorious weather. Enjoyed some lovely walks. Visited various places. We would definitely recommend it to our family and friends.  Once again thank you for an enjoyable week. C and K, and Imogen (6 weeks), Bucks and T and G, Oxford.

  • July '15  As ever a fabulous 6 days. Thank you so much Michael.  J and A S, Winchelsea, E. Sussex.
  • Aug '15  Another very enjoyable two weeks in the Barn. (4th in 2 years). Weather wasn't brilliant but still found lots to do.  Canoeing in Matlock ("Peaks and Paddles") was great fun, visit to Tissington Hall and village was lovely as was another trip to Chatsworth. Devonshire Pub in Hartington serves great food and the staff are lovely too. Thanks very much again Mike, you are such a fantastic host (and of course Barney and Gyp). P and G and T and AC, Norfolk.
  • Aug '15  It is difficult to imagine an ideal cottage to stay with 19 month old twins but we couldn't have picked a better location. The barn is lovely, very homely, welcoming, and the girls have had the room to explore! Life back at home will have a lot to live up to without the cows, sheep, dogs and tractors!!! Mike has been the perfect host and we've had the most amazing first family holiday here.  There are so many places to visit which have kept us busy. Lets hope we'll visit again soon!!!! We'll miss waking up to the amazing views. Thanks again - A & S, N & A C, J & G S, Ipswich, Suffolk
  • Aug '15  A very warm and lovely cottage. Great weather, lots of walking and biking. We had a fantastic holiday. It was so good we might come back again. William M (aged 12), Lincolnshire.
  • Great holiday, fantastic cottage. Thanks for making us feel so welcome. The Macs, Lincolnshire
  • Sept '15  Once again thank you for a fantastic place to stay. We all had a great holiday despite the mixed weather. Once again we have run out of time to do all the walks & cycle rides we planned - despite being out every day from dawn to dusk! The Manifold Inn was very good for food + service, although we thought The Packhorse at Crowdecote has declined from last year regarding food. (Beer still good though). The Bulls Head in Monyash was very good when we ate there + The Royal Oak in Wetton seems to have the odd "pop-up" restaurant evening.  See you next year. Paul and Mary, with dogs daisy and Bramble, N. ireland
  • Sept '15  Another lovely stay. It feels so homely. Mike as friendly and helpful as usual. Beresford Dale is the fovoured walk for the dogs as it allows them to have a paddle. Best food is at Biggin Hall. Devonshire Arms and Manifold Inn serve good pub grub.  P and J R, and flora and Moss the dogs.
  • Oct '15  We have had an absolutely wonderful week stay at this fabulous barn in a stunning setting in the wonderful Derbyshire/Staffordshire Dales. We have not had to venture more than 20 miles drive from here each day to have excellent and different days out. Dovedale, the Roaches with Luds Church!! and Chrome Hill are highly recommended days out walking. We have also cycled The High Peaks Trail, the the Monsal and also the Manifold Trail.  The owner of this amazing establishment is Michael Grace, who is a delightfully jolly and very helpful man, who has given us very helpful advice and also loaned us maps and offered the use of bikes etc. 10 out of 10 for a 5* establishment. Brilliant. D & I U, Perth, Scotland
  • Nov '15 We had a brilliant week in the cosy cottage, Mike made us feel very welcome. The cottage is beautiful, as is the surrounding countryside that we gleefully explored. Fantastic holiday, can't thank Mike enough. All the homely touches helped us settle and made leaving very hard. Everything about this place is wonderful, can't recommend highly enough, thank you. H and A, Ipswich, Suffolk
  • Nov '15 Another great stay in Mike's lovely cottage. Weather has been kind to us and we had some good walks with our dogs. Had two guests arrive midweek for two days and they would like to thank Mike for the fantastic warm cottage stay. Sure we will return for yet another stay. C and K (Tilly and Daisy, the dogs).
  • Dec '15  We have forgotten how many times we have visited, but we never forget that we are never disappointed! Thank you again Mike for this little piece of paradise and what is always a much needed escape from the madness of London. N and M, Weybridge.
  • Dec '15 Our second Christmas at West Side Barn. Weather not great with week in contrast with the snow last year, but enjoyable as always. Most of the pubs in the area are welcoming and friendly, serving decent food. for something a little more upmarket try Carriages in Newhaven, near Hartington. P and J R, and the dogs, Flora and Moss.  Oxted, Surrey.
  • Jan '16 Our third New Year in this gorgeous barn cottage! Once again everything lovely here! Had a great meal at The Manifold. Pleasant trip to Bakewell for a much needed Bakewell Puddy. The weather was much better than anticipated and we were all able to enjoy several walks with Barney and Gyp. M and JK, E. Molesey, Surrey
  • This is about our 10th stay here and we couldn't ask for anything better! Everythins was perfect as usual and loved going climbing at Burbage North and the Foundry climbing wall. Also had some lovely walks with Barney and Gyp which were very enjoyable. Many thanks for another lovely stay and hope to come back soon. T and T, East Molesey, Surrey.
  • Mar '16 Another lovely week in this excellent cottage. Although the weather was cold the cottage was so warm and comfortable. The weather has been very mixed but been out walking every day and had to make use of the washing machine several times due to the mud and wet. So nice to have a cottage with such a helpful and welcoming owner. This is our 2nd visit and hope will be a third very soon.  R and J C (and Jasper the dog), A, W and R W.
  • Mar '16 This is our second stay at the cottage and again we found it the perfect spot to explore the Peaks. Beresford Dale is a lovely walk for our dog! Thor's Cave is a lovely day out - park at Wetton and have a cottee at the Mill - refuel for the steep walk home! The George at Alstonefield serves delicious food and is dog-friendly - more expensive than other local pubs but a more refined menu but was a winner for us. We will be back. The rain held off! PH family (and Roxy the dog).
  • Mar '16  A perfect cottage. A very welcoming host. Excellent location to explore the Peak Districk. A lovely sunny day walking aroun Kinder Scout - to be recommended. Cycling along the Manifold Trail, walking around, and above, Ladybower and a visit to Chatsworth. Even had snow. A wonderful stay. Thanks Mike. Schnabel Family, Surrey
  • Apr '16 A long stay in this cottage while we renovated our new property in Hognaston. Mike has been so helpful -we'd have really struggled without his generosity. In the past we've stayed here for lovely breaks but being here a month only brings into focus what an ideal property and location this is for evrything that is wonderful about the Peak District. P & J Rand dogs Flora and Moss. Hognaston, Derbyshire
  • April '16 After a damp start the sun shone on us for another enjoyable week. We ate well at the Manifold Inn and got all that we needed at the Village Store in Hartington. We always enjoy the walk by the river at Beresford Dale and of course the Manifold Way. We spent a lot of time at Chatsworth this year, walking the grounds which are beautiful. Dog enjoyed it too! Once again thank you Mike for your generous hospitality - it's our 8th year and we enjoy it more each year. M and B P, K, J and M, Husbands Bosworth, Leics.
  • May 16 Another great stay at West Side Barn (number 6). Weather was exceedingly kind and going home with a tan. Had loads of great walks with our dogs. • June '16  We have spent a marvellous 3-day break in this beautiful West Side Barn. Everything about it is admirable and the extra spoilings of flowers, chocolates, biscuits, tea and coffee etc. are an added bonus. We have thoroughly enjoyed our 'al fresco' meals surrounded by stunning scenery and taking walks and trips out in such pretty countryside. Our thanks to Mr. Grace, a very genial host, who has been most helpful and friendly during our visit and advised us of interesting places to walk and see. E and E B, and baby Alex, Aylesbury, and C and T Y, Watford.
  • June '16 The cottage and welcome were really lovely, Michael is so thoughtful and helpful. We were very comfortable here, just as well as it rained a lot! Despite the rain, we had a lovely break. The Manifold Trail was OK - torrential downpour!!! So sheltered at Wetton Cafe.(They let the wet dogs in, which was kind!!). Manifold Pub food very nice, service OK! Did the Dovedale to Milldale walk -stunning!!!! Ranked no.2 in every walk we have ever done!! Great meal at the Devonshire Arms on Sunday night. Going home refreshed!! Thank-you!!! M and F, Suffolk.
  • June '16 We have not stayed in a barn conversion before and we are now converted. The wet-room is fantastic. Our bed (downstairs) was very comfortable. The open plan lounge/kitchen was very cosy and we didn't even need to use the woodburner. The Golden Retrievers loved the enclosed fold. We enjoyed looking round Hulme End and Hartington and had great walks in Dovedale and along the Manifold Way. Mr. Grace was a friendly and helpful host. A and N W, Middlesbrough

  • Nov'16  Without doubt the best holiday accommodation we have stayed in (& we have been to a lot!). So many lovely details and as previously mentioned - nothing too much for Mike to help with. We appreciated the downstairs bedroom and wetroom for Daphne who celebrated her 89th birthday here. We will definitely come back again asap! For longer hopefully! Thanks so much Mike! D & A K and DS, Epping, Essex.
  • Christmas 2016 Thanks for a lovely stay - may we join the effusive paraise of the previous guests. The only thing we could have done with was a slightly larger fridge, but we appreciate that most guests will take advantage of all the lovely pubs hereabouts to eat in, rather than trying to cram a week's worth of Christmas feasting into the kitchen! Still, the seasonal weather meant the Barn room was perfectly good for cold storage. Thanks again - we hope to visit again soon! Happy New Year! Lidburies, Sheffield
  • Jan '17 Our 4th year here! A wonderful time as usual! We so look forward to catching up with you Mike and a real treat to walk out with Gyp and Barney as well! Already looking forward to next year! Take care of yourself Mike. Tracy and Darren and the dogs Alfie and Sweetie

  • Sept. '17 Once again a great holiday in superb accommodation. Weather mixed but it doesn't matter as it's still a fantastic area for walking and cycling no matter what it's like. Even after living in the area for years and visiting for the last 10 years we still discover new things every time we come. Tugg Lane Dairy - Monyash - ice cream made from Farm's own new milk. New artisan bakery in Ashbourne - Ashbourne Bakehouse.  Village Stores, Hartington, now has a pop-up pizza truck ( a modified horse box ) and can order bread from the artisan bakery in Leak on a Saturday. Thanks once again Mike. M R and P D, Willow and Daisy the dogs. Fermanagh, N. Ireland
  • Sept '17 Our first visit to this amazing place -  perfect, very well equipped and so comfortable. We can quite understand why people return so often! We walkedd locally - the walk from the house to Wetton and returning via the Back of Ecton. Took in delicious tea and cake at Wetton Mill. And then walked from Hartington into Wolfscote Dale - magical - we returned up Biggin Dale and Reynards Lane to an excellent lunch at the Devonshire arms - efficient, friendly and the food is good. Many thanks for thinking of everything, Mike -the chocs and flowers were appreciated. C & P Harmer, Shropshire.
  • Sept '17  We couldn't have felt more comfortable or more welcomed. Great facilites and so easy for the dogs with the field outside to run in. Spoilt for choice of lovely walks nearby and plenty of dog friendlly places to eat. Really enjoyed the Devonshire Arms - thanks for the recommendation Mike. Thank you also for being the perfect host; there to offer advice and check all was well, while mostly leaving us to get on with enjoying the place. We can see why so many people come back again and we'll certainly hope to return sometime soon. V C and the spaniels, Warwickshire.

  • Oct '17 All the wonderful things written in this book about this beautiful holiday home are so true, thank you Mike for sharing this thoughful, comfy cottage. Our week has been great despite the rain, the washing machine has been a god send and the boys enjoyed the chocolates, such a kind and thoughtful touch. Many thanks.  R & C, J & T, Sam and Maisie the dogs.  Cambridgeshire
  • Nov '17  Perfect, perfect, perfect. The Barn is amazing, full of character. Everything you need is here. The well equipped kitchen is a joy to do all the meals, which is quite something for me to say. Nothing missed, wonderful country views from the kitchen window. The most spacious bedrooms with plenty of storage plus an ensuite, again so spacious and well designed. A downstairs wet room, again, small is not an option here. Well situated for walking and exploring. The Barn is a place where you feel very comfortable and relaxed. It feels full of warmth and love. A lot of thought and care went into making this a joy for anyone staying here.  The icing on the cake was the enclosed paddock for our dog, Harley, to be able to run freely and safely. Mike, of course, a very nice and friendly man. Nothing too much trouble. Thank you for sharing this amazing place with us. Hope to see you again.  S, K, N and A, Warwickshire
  • Nov '17  We have done many Cottage breaks over the years and this is easily the best. The kitchen has everything you need. The log burner is amazing. Well used this week/ Even the small paddock for the dogs couldn't be handier. Thank you very much for this wonderful stay. C & J H, and Molly ( the dog)
  • Nov '17 This was the first cottage trip for us. Safely say we will be doing it again. The cottage has everything you need and the area has plenty to offer. We will definitely be coming back. Thanks for an amazing weekend. P & L.

The facilities for those less able are spot on, with safety taken into considerat6ion. Our two dogs have thoroughly enjoyed the use of the paddock! We will be checking our diaries and hopefully coming back soon. V and B and J. Holbeach, Lincs.

The barn really had everything we needed, and the flowers and chocolates were a nice touch. The Barn has everything you need and so close to so many amazing places, or you can just relax on the sun loungers and take in the great views from the paddock. Our 2 year old Border Collie, Blu, loved playing with Gyp and enjoyed his company when we took him with us on some of our walks and outing. We will definitely be coming back next year and hopefully the weather will be just as good. See you soon Mike and all the best for the future.  A and S and J, and Blu. Cheshire
  • Aug '18  A very comfortable and well  equipped holiday home! It is in a great location for visiting many places not too far away. Mike is a super host - thank you for the welcome gifts of chocs, flowers and milk. Future guests! Try The Staffordshire Knot - great food, a lovely host! J & J and Max, the dog.
  • Aug '18  Have had a lovely time staying at West Side, it really has been like a home away from home! Mike is a great host and great location to have as a base to explore the Peaks and beyond. The children enjoyed having so much outdoor space to play and we have been so lucky with the weather too. A couple of highlights were visiting Chatsworth House Farmyard and Adventure Playground and the Museum of Childhood at Sudbury Hall. We also had a day trip to Liverpool and went on the Anfield Stadium tour, which was great, especially for Kieran as he is a big fan!  P, C M & K, New Malden, Surrey
  • Aug '18  What an amazing welcome from Mike! Cottage is fantastically equipped and the flowers, milk and chocolates were greatly appreciated on arrival. The area is beautiful and we spent time in Buxton, Bakewell, Hartington, Ashbourne. Great walks and bike trails on the doorstep which we all loved. The teenagers especially enjoyed Go Ape in Buxton, well worth it, and Alton towers which was only a 30 minute drive away. Can't say enough about West Side Barn, very sad to be leaving, it's a gem of a find and we will definitely be back. Thanks Mike! D and L, J and M, H and J. Riley and Rose, the dogs
  • Aug '18 We had a fantastic week staying at West Side Barn. The property and its location are just perfect for exploring the beautiful Peak District. • Sept 2018  "Wow" - What a beautiful place West Side Barn is! Very well equipped, clean, comfortable and a joy to stay in. We enjoyed our holiday very much. The Manifold Inn serves lovely meals and is well worth a visit. We enjoyed seeing the cows, sheep and breathtaking scenery every morning - what more could you ask for? Thank you Mr. Grace for the warm welcome, flowers, milk and chocolates! We would love to visit again one day. Wishing you all the best!  P, L and C A, and Oscar (the dog), Ipswich, Suffolk.
  • Sept '18  We've lost count of the number of times we've stayed in this beautiful cottage. Mike - you are a wonderful host and the cottage is perfect, so thank you once again. We had a full two weeks, as usual cycling, walking, horse riding and the occasional pint! Thought the Packhorse at Crowdecote good for evening meals ( though understand it may be changing hands soon). The Tea Junction at Hulme End excellent for lunch, Wetton Mill for coffee and snacks. Further afield, Greenways Cafe in Matlock and Caudwells Mill Cafe in Rowsley are Vegetarian ( so we visited them a lot!)  The Grapes in Longnor is good for an early evening drink ( before fish and chips Longnor ). Good craft ales and friendly service and seems to be well supported by friendly locals. M and P, Willow and Daisy (the dogs), Fermanagh, N.I.
  • Sept '18  We've had a great weekend in this beautiful cottage. Mike, you are an excellent host. The cottage tour, when we arrived, was very useful. The cottage is cosy, warm, well equipped and well thought through with everything you need for a comfortable break away. Well done Mike. We had some great walks with family, and dogs and would definitely visit again. E and P, J and A, and dogs, Thetford, Norfolk
  • Oct '18  A truly fantastic week of weather has added to making our 5th stay at West Side Barn one of the most memorable. Walking in shirt sleeves in late September has been a joy. We have revisited some old favourites like Thors Cave and Luds Church (our all time favourite) but also visited Mam Tor near Castleton and The Roaches, which must have the best views in the Peaks. As always it has been a pleasure to spend one lazy evening or two at West Side which is as warm and comfortable as ever. Thank you Mike once again for a most enjoyable stay. M & R N, Newhaven and R & B B, Uckfield. And the dogs Bella, Murph and Gus.
  • Oct '18 We loved the cottage, thank you. Every need was provided for, a real home from home. We hope to come back to continue to explore this wonderful area. Would highly recommend the walk starting in Hartington along the Beresford and Wolfscote Dale - beautiful. Bakewell Market on Monday was interesting as was the walk from Matlock to Matlock Baths. Also the National Trust property Ilam Park - plus Chatsworth House, all withing 30 min drive. S & I J, Wiltshire.
  • Oct '18  Another lovely peaceful stay. Thank you for your hospitality once again. All being well we will be back next year. M & R A, Lincs.
  • Oct '18  We have had a wonderful week here. The cottage is such a comfortable, cosy lace to stay, with everything we have needed. The location is excellent, so many walks to choose from. We ate at the Devonshire Arms, Hartington and The Manifold pub too. Both good, but I felt The Devonshire had the edge! If anyone is a crafter, the vintage tea shop called Betty's in Ashbourne is well worth a visit. Thank you Mike for such a warm welcome. We really hope we'll be back before long. One of our best holidays. M & J W, P & C B, Norfolk
  • Nov '18  Super week ended all too soon. A lovely comfortable cottage with loads of walks on the door step. Would recommend The Manifold Trail, Milldale to Dovedale and the various Dales around Hartington.  We would agree that The Devonshire has the edge over The Manifold but that may be to do with the "Farmers Blond Ale". Do try both. Mike is the perfect host for information or to sort any of those minor niggles. Thanks for a very enjoyable stay. G & L and Lily and Daisy (the dogs. Daisy is the noisy one!).  Huddersfield
  • Nov '18 Lovely well maintained cottage! Very helpful owner with lovely dog Gyp. We took some lovely walks and had some fantastic cosy evenings in this beautiful cottage. This is the best (clean, charming, well localted) cottage we have ever visited!!! and we travel a lot! Thank you Mike! We will be back. p.s. I will e-mail you some photos of Gyp and Mikey. E & G R, L & K, Long Eaton / Poland, and Mikey JR ( collie - corgi cross ).
  • Nov '18  Had a lovely weekend here at West Side Barn. Very cosy and comfortable, the log burner fantastic! We arrived in the dark and rain but woke up to a beautiful view. Had a very nice meal at The Devonshire Arms, Hartington. The Manifold Inn, which is closer, was OK too. Michael is a very welcoming host and the flowers , milk and chocs very much appreciated. Very well equipped cottage with all you need to have a great stay.  M & T G, S & C G, and Buster and Benji (the dogs). Northampton.
  • Nov '18  Our third visit to West Side Barn. The weather was rough and wild but the cottage was warm and cosy. We love coming here and so do the dogs! We'll be back - I am sure. Thanks Mike! D & A K, and D S. Lara & Merlyn ( the dogs). Epping, Essex.
  • Dec '18  We've had an amazing time here at West Side Barn! Mike has been great - very welcoming and made us feel comfortable and at home straight away. This was a very last minute booking but that wasn't an issue and the booking process was quick and easy. The weather has been wet and windy but that hasn't bothered us or the dogs, at all! The cottage is extremely cosy - we love the log burner and the area for dogs to run around in. Overall, a fantastic stay and we hope to be back next year. A friendly owner, who was great with the dogs, cosy and comfortable cottage and excellent location.  OG, MD, Archie and Charlie (the dogs). Cambridgeshire.
  • Jan '19  Sadly we could only come for a shorter time this New Year but it's still been great! Lovely to return to a place we know so well and it's as homely and welcoming as we remembered. Thanks again Mike and Gyp.
  • Jan '19  Our 6th lovely visit to West Side Barn, wonderful as always! Great to spend time with family (above) and catch up with Mike and Gyp, who joined in with our dogs on some great walks! Thanks for the goodies as well! Happy New Year. T & DM, & Allie,Sweet, and Star, Herefordshire

  • Feb '19  We have had a wonderful week. Mike and Gyp gave us a warm welcome and made us feel very at home. The flowers, milk, chocolates and biscuits on arrival were a lovely toucjh. The Barn is in a great location woth lots of good walks. Cycle trails close by. We ate at The Manifold Inn which is a 5 minute walk away - portions huge and food tasty. The Barn itself is very well equipped - lots of everyday essentials (e.g. handwash, kitchen roll) and board games. Kids loved making use of the paddock. We will be back. Thanks Mike. T, E, T, and R, Otley, Yorkshire
  • Mar '19  We've stayed in many holiday lets over many years and West Side Barn is the best by far. First class accommodation, well appointed in a lovely area of the Peak District. Mike has done very well and was extrememy helpful also showing lots of historical information which was fascinating. Friends Simon and Lorraine popped in for a couple of days on their way to Devon. Ate in for two evenings, which was cosy 'cos everything was provided. Twice at the Jervis Arms - good quality gastro pub - cosy with wood burners in all spaces. Twice at the Greyhound at Warslow - proper pub grub, was very good value pub grub and it was busy, vibrant and friendly - especially on Friday evening. Walks were brilliant. Manifold Way was great, on the level. From WSB we walked over Ecton Hill and back along the Manifold Way. That was a knee breaker! The only problem is WSB is booked up all Autumn! p.s. The weather was horrible! Thank you Mike. C & Y, and Daisy and Tilley - Mother and daughter Cocker Spaniels. Norfolk, near Holt
  • Mar '19  Our second stqy and we weren't disappointed! 2 days of nasty weather and then just excellent walking days. On Wednesday it was hot and the sun was shining. The cottage has everything we need and Alice loves the field. Agree with the above in respect of the food at The Jervis Arms and The Greyhound, also the Manifold Inn is very convenient. Can't wait to return. We enjoyed our walk/visit to Eyam. Thank you Mike. C & M B, and Alice (the dog), Sandbach, Cheshire.
  • Apr '19  What a great week - the cottage was so comfortable we could've stayed another week. We especially liked the extra touches; Mike's show round, hand soap, fabric conditioner, a very warm cottage and the freedom for our dog to roam the gardens. This week we have done a lot of walking;
  • *Mam Tor - mostly on lead dog walking - visited Blue John Cavern and could take the dog with us.
  • *Ilam, Dovedale - on/off lead dog walking. Lovely walk and lots of things to see on the way. Fantastic Bakewell ice cream at Mill Dale. -
  • *Monsal Trail - flat bike trail with no cars. Could've been off lead but our dog kept walking in front other cyclists! Bakewell has lots of nice shops and cake!
  • *Kinder Scout - great scrambling up curious rocks. Got a bit lost coming down so make sure you take a map! (Ate in The Ramblers Inn in Edale & allows dogs.)
  • *From here to Wetton - Great walk - all off lead - lovely cake and tea at wetton Mill cafe. ( Ecton Mines, Thor's Cave).
  • *Roaches, Luds Church - lovely gentle easy walk. All off lead.
  • *Ate in Manifold Inn, allows dogs and good food. Might need to book for B/H and weekends. Thank you Mike and Gyp for a fantastic stay. C,C,R & O M, Colchester, Essex.
  • ( Apr '19  I really liked the garden because I could play bat and ball with my family. You have to try to hit the ball and make it touch the ground! The catchers, as you can guess, have to catch the ball 2 times for the batter to be out. )
  • Apr '19  A very warm welcome from Mike on arrival at West Side Barn. The cottage has everything you need for a warm, comfortable and fun stay. Ollie and Maisy ( the dogs ) were very well catered for; a large lawned paddock with easy access alongside the cottage. Mike was very attentive and had lots of local knowledge of the area. Perfect location. Visited Chatsworth House; went to Dovedale, Tissington, Ashbourne. Thank you Mike for a lovely weeks holiday. We will be back for sure. L & G & J A, L & L, Immingham, Lincs.
  • Apr '19  Had a very comfortable and active week, made possible with good weather. Great scenery to be enjoyed from Barn and surrounding area. Many thanks for welcoming flowers and chocs - much appreciated. Already considering our return. Well done Mike and your helpers!
  • Apr '19  Arrived during storm but the cottage was warm and cosy & Mike was very helpful. Weather improved and we had a nice walk around Alstonefield and Dovedale on Monday, Bakewell and Carsington Water on Tuesday.  The dogs enjoyed the paddock, which was fine for our Houdini Brittany with the addition of a person at the stile to prevent escape. The cottage is lovely and comfortable and we would recommend it to anyone who loves walking and the countryside. K & C & V. (Ellie, the Brittany, Freddie the Lab/Toller). Beccles and Staffordshire.
  • May '19  Very welcoming host. Beautiful place, beautiful location. Cottage has everything you could possible need. Paddock is a brilliant addition, Jackson loved chasing his ball in there. Lots of lovely walks on the doorstep - needed to stay longer!  E, M, C and Jackson (the dog). Shropshire
  • May '19 We had a lovely week in this beautiful cottage. Mike made us as welcome as did Gyp! To wake up to birdsong and the sound of sheep was bliss. This is a good spot to explore the Peak District from and you really need more than a week to do it justice. We enjoyed meals at The Manifold (at bottom of the lane ) and The Greyhound at Warslow - we would recommend both of them. We wish we lived nearer so that we could return more often! G & N O-W. Sussex,  A & L W. Kent.
  • June '19  Another fantastic week here. Thank you Mike for making us feel so welcome and thinking of everything we might need. The downstairs wet room was very useful on the day we got soaked on Kinder Scout! A, I & R, Baldock, Herts.
  • June '19  Thank you so much Mike for a lovely holiday. We enjoyed so very much for having spent our time in this lovely cottage. Thank you too for the biscuits and chocolates (yum yum) also for making us so very welcome as soon as we arrived, and showing us around the cottage, which was so helpful to us. It's so sad to be leaving , could do with another week (really a month). We will be back, it's so peaceful. The cottage contained everything we needed to make us so comfortable. Thank you once again Mike, so appreciated for all your kindness. V, M H and J, Narborough, Leics.
  • July '19  Our second time at West sSde Barn and we really enjoyed it as much as last year. What a fantastic place, in a great location and we were lucky to have great weather again. Blu (our Border Collie ) enjoyed the walks and having Gyp as company on them. Mike was the perfect host advising on the best places to go, eat and walk. We will be booking again next year as I can sincerely say this is the best holiday home we have ever been in. It is just idyllic. We can fully recommend The Jervis Arms and The Greyhound Inn for good food, a warm welcome and being dog-friendly. All the best Mike and see you again next year. A& S, J & Kathryn, and Blu. Crewe Cheshire
  • July '19  We have so enjoyed our week here - our 11th year! Michael and helpers, thank you so much - the house was beautifully clean  when we arrived. Gyp behaved almost impeccably, and was as entertaining as the Buxton International Festival. Michael, keep as well as poss, and see you next year, or earlier, if possible. J & A S, Winchelsea, E. Sussex.
  • July '19  Fabulous week in this fabulous cottage, which included the hottest day (and night) on record in July. Highlights included a spectacular walk in Biggindale and Wolfscote, Dovedale  (beautiful as ever and, if you have any sense, go early!), Millersdale, and as well as Lud's Church Chasm. Loved visiting all mineral collecting haunts around Castleton. Thanks Mike - We look forward to visiting again! M, E, J, S K, St. Helier, Jersey, C.I.
  • Aug '19 We can echo all the comments about this lovely cottage - its facilities. location and warm welcome from Mike. In spite of the weather we have enjoyed exploring this part of the Peak District - taking some walks from the door, along the Manifold Track to Thor's Cave and up Ecton Hill. We can also recommend seeing (and walking) the Roaches and Lud's Church - we did these on separate trips. The Tissington Trail from Hartington Station was a pleasant walk on a rainy day! We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back one day! Many thanks. p.s. Ida (the dog) loved the paddock. G, D & R, Hertford.
  • Aug '19 What can we say that has not already been said? Having read through some of the many comments Mike has held high standards for many years and has only maintained this throughout our stay at West Side Barn. It is all in the detail and Mike leaves little to be desired. Milk, biscuits, tea/coffee and fresh flowers greeted us on arrival, all of which were hugely appreciated after a long journey and whilst we waited for our shopping to be delivered. There is no question, the cottage is beautiful, and the amenities fantastic, particularly the use of the freezer and washing machine. The gardens surrounding the cottage were well loved by us. We played many games, made a grass snowman, hide and seek, cricket.  The memories we've made are endless. All whilst taking in the fantastic view and breathing in the fresh Peak air. The cottage is perfectly situated within various attractions. In particular The Heights of Abraham and The Museum of Childhood deserve a mention both of which provided fantastic days out and lots to see. If you fancy a 'Take-Away' "So Thai" in Leek really ticked our taste buds. Albeit, we had to collect it, it remained hot. We also visited the restaurant 'Carriages, a 10 minute drive and the food was delicious. Overall the stay has been fantastic. Mike is an attentive host and we enjoyed meeting Gyp the dog too. In fact our only disappointment is that we couldn't play with Gyp a bit more. Mike. we've had a ball!! Thank you.  SP, York.
  • Aug '19  A beautiful, clean cottage tastefully decorated. The small, thoughtful extras such as the milk, tea biscuits and flowers made a lovely welcoming touch. The location is stunning, remote but not too remote to get out and about making it a perfect base for our week away. Despite the weather we had some fantastic walks with Tig and the cottage itself was so well equipped we wanted for nothing. A perfect host; Mike thank you, we will certainly recommend the barn and hope to see you again. T, M, E P, and Tig, Evesham
  • Aug '19 What an absolute delight. Area, Barn, Mike and Gyp. We wish we had found it sooner but we will definitely be back. Walks from the door, bike hire from Hulme End and lovely coffee and beer stops along the Manifold Valley. We will be back. R, A, G and Tarn (the dog) Shropshire
  • Aug '19  A very well-equipped cottage and a very welcoming host.Ideal for up to 5 people with plenty of room. It is very well situated for the western Peak District. One of the best we have stayed in and we have been coming to this area for the last eight years. M B and Luke, Thirsk, Guisborough.
  • Sept ' 19.  I have lost count but I think this is our 8th annual visit. The cottage is perfect and so is the location. Mike is the perfect host and Gyp ( the dog that never stand still!) provides lots of entertainment. Ate in the Manifold but thought not as good as other times. The Merchants House at Longnor we thought excellent (and is dog friendly ). The Black Lion at Butterton is excellent too and does the best chocolate brownies (everything is homemade and the vegetarian options are really good and different ). Chip shop at Longnor continues to be excellent and the real ale at The Manifold, Grapes (Longnor) and Black Lion is really good. M & P, and Daisy and Willow ( the dogs). Northern Ireland.
  • Sept '19  Another wonderful holiday in this wonderful place. We love all the walks from the Barn. Mike and Gyp great hosts. It is perfect for us and we will be back next year. The weather was glorious and we could have done with sun hats. We could not have asked for anything more. Alic had a great time too. C & M and Alice (the dog ). Sandbach
  • Sept '19 west Side Barn is the perfect place for a relaxing break. The barn has been tastefully converted and is very comfortable, well furnished, and with all the fittings and finishing touches needed. The enclosed paddock was perfect outdoor apace for our German Shepherd.  Mike the host is welcoming and helpful, Gyp the dog is delightful, and we appreciated the milk, biscuits and chocolate that greeted us on arrival.  The village store in Hartington is small but provides for basic food needs, but for foodies and serious cooks a visit to Chatsworth Farm Shop is a must! The dog friendly pubs are too numerous to mention by name but for a decent pint The Manifold Inn can't be beaten, and is only a short walk away.
